The EU’s Transparency Initiative for Mining Industries
Right Direction, Insufficient Means
In order to bolster fair market rules, combat tax evasion and boost global governance, the EU's Transparency Initiative obliges companies in the mining sector to disclose payments they have made to governments. This commentary discusses the initiative and argues that the EU needs to learn from such endeavours and minimize the burden on companies.
