Will Kenya’s 2010 Constitution Work for Women and Children?
This Briefing takes stock of what has been achieved in the first year of implementation of Kenya’s 2010 constitution, and what still needs to be done to realize constitutional commitments to the rights of children and women. The authors note that the Constitution has paved the way for progress on equity. A constitutional text alone however cannot guarantee change – what matters is how implementation translates commitments to rights into policy and practice. While there are challenges and pockets of resistance, the authors recommend some concrete actions that can support the realization of newly enshrined rights.
