The Relevance of Private Actors in the Transnational Sphere for Just Peace Governance

This research paper looks at the relationship between non-state actors and just peace governance. International political theory, global governance research on legitimacy, inclusion, and participation, all share the general claim that today’s transnational problems requires the involvement of non-state actors in the political process. It argues that this is the only way to achieve gains in legitimacy and effectiveness. The authors address the concerns around non-state actors and whether their inclusion really does result in positive impacts for justice or peace. Nevertheless, the rise in number of actors seeking to influence global political processes will increase the number of conflicting applications, values, preferences and claims for recognition.
