No “Turkish Spring” – But an End to the “Turkish Model”?
This Current Column discusses the Turkish government's recent reactions to the Gezi park protests. It argues that the spikey nature of the reaction is undermining Ankara's standing as an imitation-worthy democracy, and therefore its ability to influence other states in the region. It also claims that the reaction does not bode well for future dissent in the country.
