Taiwan and Sunnylands: The Dog That Didn’t Bark
This commentary argues that the subject of Taiwan is overlooked in US-China diplomatic relations. Although on the surface this may be a positive development, the author identifies a number of problems with this approach. Chief among these is Taipei’s exclusion from major global governance institutions that can provide solutions to international issues that involve Taiwan, such as the effective resolution of regional disputes. In conclusion, the author suggests that Washington must not forget about Taiwan in its pursuit of better relations with China.
