Syria's Chemical Weapons
Issues for Congress
This report assesses the policy issues surrounding the use or loss of control of chemical weapons in Syria. It says that the US believes that the Asad regime has secured chemical weapons and there is concern about what could happen to these weapons during the civil war. The authors outline the history of Syria's chemical and biological weapons programs, potential US and global responses to chemical weapons use by Syria, and possible cooperative threat reduction programs.
