Defence Procurement Procedure 2013
A Ringside View
This Issue Brief analyzes the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP), which was released by the Indian Ministry of Defence on June 1, 2013. In particular, it focuses on what's new -- i.e., an attempt by DPP planners to arrange their procurement categories in a hierarchical way. In doing so, they hope to 1) encourage domestic industries to provide the military equipment and weapons systems they need, 2) improve these industries’ technological base, and 3) wean New Delhi off its dependency on others.
