The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) researches economic transformation processes. Initially, as New Lander of Germany as well as in Central and Eastern Europe experienced the transformation from a centrally planned to a market economy, special research focus was given to the observation and scientific analysis of these transformation processes. However, this perspective broadened over time toward analyzing the general process of economic change. Today, this relates to global integration and its linkages to national societies.
