South Caucasus 2020: Future Scenarios, Alternative Realities
In this audio presentation, two experts take turns painting alternative futures for the South Caucasus. The German Institute for International and Security Affairs' Uwe Halbach first stresses the negatives -- e.g., he explores a possible future for the area that is characterized by instability and insecurity. The Geneva Centre for Security Policy's Heidi Tagliavini then imagines a more benign future defined by opportunities, stability and relative security. In adopting this complementary negative-positive approach, both speakers also identify possible tipping points and critical thresholds for the benefit of their listeners.
