The Other Sides of Afghanistan: The Significance of Afghanistan’s Neighborhood
In this audio presentation, three experts examine how Afghanistan's neighbors will assume a more prominent role in managing its security as ISAF nations continue to withdraw their forces. The experts further discuss 1) how the Central Asian Republics, China, India, Pakistan and Russia view the current situation in Afghanistan and how it might impact each of them, 2) the possibility of a coordinated regional approach to state-building in the country, and 3) whether there is any scope for significant cooperation with the West in the latter project. (Note: The speakers include Anatol Lieven from King’s College, London; Vitaly Naumkin from the Russian Academy of Sciences; and Niklas Swanström from the Institute for Security and Development Policy.)
