Migration and Security
In this audio presentation, four experts look at the relationship between migration and security from a variety of angles. They discuss, for example, the extent to which migration can be securitized; the circumstances under which migration becomes a national security threat; and the impact of migration on human security, both in terms of the migrant and the family often left behind. In exploring these issues, the speakers also link their comments to the migratory patterns presently occurring in the Middle East and North Africa. (Note: The speakers include Markus Leitner from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Erika Feller from UNHCR; Khalid Koser from the Geneva Centre for Security Policy; and Walter Feichtinger from the Institute for Peace Support and Conflict Management.)
