Power Shifts and Regional Order: Revolutions in North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula
In this audio presentation, three experts discuss how the upheavals in the Arab world have brought about fundamental changes in the region's social and political make-up. Because these changes are part of an ongoing process, they still lead to a series of open questions -- e.g., Egypt's regional status, the possible effects of regime change in Syria, the US's evolving influence in a balance of power-centered region, the dynamics of the Arab-Israeli conflict, etc. (Note: This podcast first features welcome addresses by the Center for Security Studies' Andreas Wenger and Federal Councilor Ueli Maurer, who heads the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport. The actual presentations begin at 12:30 and feature John Limbert from the US Naval Academy; Volker Perthes from the German Institute for International and Security Affairs; and Yossi Alpher from the Bitterlemons Family of internet publications.)
