Islam in Russia and the Relationship Between Moscow and the Caucasus
In this audio presentation, Alexey Malashenko, who is Co-Chair of the Carnegie Moscow Center's Religion, Society, and Security Program, talks about the long-standing, religiously-based tensions between the Russian state and its restive Muslim populations in the Caucasus. These tensions will persist, he argues, because they are deeply linked to the larger problems faced by the Russian Federation as a whole.
