Regional Conflicts and Nuclear Disarmament: What are the Links
In this audio presentation from the 2013 International Security Forum, three experts discuss how the presence of nuclear weapons continues to shape the nature of regional conflicts in the Middle East, South Asia, and the Korean Peninsula. In their view, the relationship is a symbiotic one -- nuclear disarmament depends on solving these conflicts while eliminating nuclear weapons could reduce regional tensions. (Note: The speakers include Ambassador Jaakko Laajava, who is the Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland; Ambassador Jayantha Dhanapala, who is a former UN Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs; and Mark Hibbs, who is a Senior Associate at the Nuclear Policy Progamme, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.)
